Real Talk Tuesday- Things I Hear at the Bank

This Real Talk Tuesday is kinda long.
I was going to just make it another post on a random day,
but it seems super appropriate for Real Talk Tuesday with Nikki and Tell Me About it Tuesday with Helene and Emily

As most of you know, or will know now,
I work at a local bank.
Yes I am a bank teller.
And let me tell ya, it's not all roses and gum drops.
At times it can be difficult, stressful, and boring.
Bankers hours do not exist anymore: We open 10 minutes early and close 10 minutes late, we are open on the weekends, and one night a week (Fridays of all days) we stay open till 6pm. It's not just deposits, withdrawals, and check cashing.
There is MUCH MORE to being a banker than I ever realized...
until I became one of course :)
In a previous post, I stated that this is not my career, just my current job.
I did go to college and received my degree in Psychology.
I will pursue that dream once I'm a little more out of my student loans than I am currently.
But for right now, this is where I am.
There are some perks to the job, like fun customers, coworkers, and people's conversations.
And there are some not so fun times, like when we don't make sales, annoying coworkers, and just an overall bad day.

Some funny things I've heard at the bank:
*Disclosure- most of these are at the drive thru when people are talking on their cell phones or with whomever is in the car*
+ Sex stories- these are super awkward to hear, but most of the time make me feel good about myself and thankful for my husband.
+ Fights- this is the most common thing I hear when working and sometimes the fight gets so intense, I have to turn my mic off to spare the customers inside. It makes me wonder what has happened to get to that point, but it is not pleasant.
+ Gossip- another big one I hear. I feel like I'm in on their gossip when they start talking about it, even though I have no idea what's going on. On the other hand, it makes me super glad I'm not in high school anymore where that much drama lies! "Oh my gosh can you believe Justin is going out with that whore?!" Yea no thank you!

And then some conversations or topics that customers talk to me about:

+ Wedding planning/engagement (before the wedding)- this is something that honestly made me want to take my engagement ring off so that people wouldn't comment anymore. The thing that I got most often which was THE MOST painful thing to hear or for me to even respond to= "Don't get married!! Why are you getting married!? You're going to regret it!" Ok, first of all, my relationship is most likely nothing like yours and your horrible marriage, I am so happy with Dan, and I want to spend the rest of my life with him. I heard this EVERY SINGLE DAY, without a doubt. I would avoid the topic of my wedding and Dan JUST so that I wouldn't have to hear the negativity from people. And that should NEVER happen, it is the happiest time of most peoples lives, the planning and the whole process plus marrying your best friend- never feel you are doing the wrong thing. Be proud of it and hold on to it! Don't let negative people get you down.

+ The weather- another topic I hate!!! A coworker use to literally talk about the weather with every.single.customer. "So how is it out there?" It's sunny you dumb dumb! Look out the window! It's not like you can't walk to the door and feel the temperature. And when bad weather is coming and we find out a week in advance... oh forget about it!!! That is ALL I hear for over a week, along with the "Don't forget to get your bread, water, and eggs in case the power goes out!" Ok, first of all, if the power goes out, those eggs are going to go bad along with the milk you probably bought... it's more like "get the most junk food you can that WON'T go bad if the power goes out."

+ Random conversation- I am close with a lot of our customers now after working at the branch for so long, so we continue conversations throughout their many visits. We talk about their family, jobs, lives in general, my life, etc. Those are my favorite conversations because they are personal and normally the customer isn't digging for information. Most of my customers get me by now and know how sarcastic we can be towards each other and those customers are worth keeping!

So there ya have it,
what you can hear while working at the bank.
Some are funny, weird, awkward and disturbing...
most are normal!

Ta ta for now <3

  1. Hey Nicole!
I'm Sarah from the Tell Me About it Tuesday blog hop! I'm a new follower! :)
Okay first off... How awkward to hear sex stories at the bank! Really nothing is private! I have to remember that... haha I'm sure everyone's heard my stories before and I prob sounded super ridiculous! :)

I'm at would love for you to stop by!

  2. heya! I'm a new follower from the blog hop and I have to say, these made me laugh. I used to be a bank teller too and it's crazy the convos you get pulled into with random strangers! People can be so funny! Just for the record: GET MARRIED. Best decision of my life. :) So glad I found you! Just love your blog and can't wait to read more!

  3. love this! haha so funny about the coworker and the weather- that would get annoying!
thanks so much for linking up!

  4. I hated when people done that when I was engaged. I literally had one co-worker (who just happened to be going through a divorce)who told me not to do it as well. I was like...really? Just becuase your marriage wasn't that great, doesn't mean mine will be like yours. So Yeah I totally feel you on that...

To be honest, I'm one of those people were I unintentionally listen in to people's conversations. I don't even realize I'm doing it most of the time, but I always find out a lot of interesting things! lol

  5. This is too fun! Stopping by from "Tell Me About it Tuesday"!
